How are children with Eczema treated?

It is difficult to treat small children and infants suffering from Eczema, as the itching makes them very uncomfortable and they cannot be told not to scratch. Mild rashes can be taken care of by regular application of moisturizer especially after a bath. In most cases the child just outgrows the condition on its own with age. If your child suffers from frequent episodes of eczema, then you must keep the house very clean. Dust mites are thought to be a big trigger of eczema episodes. It is also advised to use very mild detergents and soaps when washing baby’s clothing. Baby shampoo, creams and lotions as well as bathing soap should be mild and preferably unscented. Try to protect your baby from sudden temperatures changes as very hold or cold weather can also trigger an episode of eczema in very small children. Soft cotton clothing soothes the baby’s skin and also prevents him from getting a rash.

If the symptoms persist then you must consult your doctor, as there are many simple, over the counter creams and medications available that can reduce the symptoms of Eczema.
